Newest Satellite Allows WildBlue to Serve More Customers in Rural Areas of the U.S.
Denver, CO ? WildBlue Communications today announced the successful start of broadband service on a third satellite, EchoStar?s AMC-15. The new satellite, will serve customers in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia and Arkansas.
The move allows WildBlue to offer better availability of its broadband service to new customers in many areas of the continental U.S. where customer demand has been the highest.
"Broadband Internet service becomes more essential every day, especially in rural America. By adding AMC-15 to our network, WildBlue is making an aggressive move to serve more customers who have no other options beyond dial-up service," said David Leonard, CEO of WildBlue. "We intend to keep expanding our satellite network to meet the demand for high-speed Internet service everywhere."
In March, WildBlue announced an agreement to lease Ka band capacity on the AMC-15 satellite from Colorado-based EchoStar Satellite Services, a division of EchoStar Corporation (Nasdaq: SATS). WildBlue officially launched service on AMC-15 yesterday, less than five months after the agreement was signed.
Despite the recession, WildBlue has continued to grow and recently surpassed the 400,000 customer mark. "No matter who you are or where you live, a fast, reliable link to the online world is vital," said Leonard. "In fact, many people are willing to give up their TV service and even their phone before they would think of canceling their WildBlue Internet service."
