Athletes from across the nation will put strength and endurance to the test at the Central Coast Adventure Challenge, May 10?11, near Santa Margarita Lake, California. Technology from WildBlue Communications, Inc. a provider of high-speed Internet over satellite will be hitting the trail for the first time as participants don tracking devices that will allow spectators to monitor progress via the Internet.
According to the organization?s Website, the Central Coast Adventure Challenge is an adventure-racing weekend held in California?s beautiful Central Coast. The two-day event includes a two- to five-hour sprint race, an eight- to twelve-hour Dawn-to-Dusk adventure race, and a weekend-long festival that includes music, food and activities for racers and non-racers alike.
Organizers said that sprint race participants would test their skills at kayaking, mountain biking, epic trail?running, and team challenges. This is a great opportunity for ambitious athletes who want to learn more about adventure racing and for experienced racers looking for another form of competition.
Participants from as far away as New Jersey, along with professional teams from across the nation, will take part in the Dusk-to-Dawn experience.
Selected participants will be sporting a GPS tracking device called the SPOT Satellite Messenger. These one-of-a-kind devices use the Global Positioning System network to acquire and transmit the coordinates of the racers, allowing friends, family and spectators to follow the athletes in action and share in the excitement of the excursion.
John Whitford, principal of John Whitford Communications and a WildBlue dealer, will provide high-speed Internet service for the events. The WildBlue system will be stationed at race headquarters, where it will load participants? positions within the remote course.
